Apple Fanboy ditches Apple for Xoom & Android

I'm an Apple fanboy and have been crazy about Apple products ever since they came out. I currently have 2 iphones and just sold the other 2. That is 2 x 3 gs, 1 x 3g and an iphone 4. I always wanted to get an ipad but held off because my wife wouldn' t approve of me spending so much on a device that she couldn't watch her 1,000's of online flash movies. That is a huge drawback of the ipad especially if you want to watch flash and there are many foreign movie sites where you can legally view foreign movies. On an ipad and iphone these sites appear as a blank. Skyfire is a partial solution but I also like to go straight to reviews I CHOOSE but Skyfire does not recognize them all so iphone/ipad does not provide an optimal experience for both of us.
I then went online and checked out all the reviews I could VIEW. I was thrilled with what I saw. I have had immense experience with ios so I could readily see both advantages and disadvantages of each device. The advantages of the Mototrola Xoom are just too numerous to list but I will try to list as many as possible but I am finding new advantages everyday. Also my Xoom has not received any update yet so I am working with a stock version 3.01. And it's zillions times better than Apple's ios. The update is coming tonight direct to my device but only a couple of weeks ago I was all excited about Apple's ios 5 which will allow users to activate and update their devices direct from their devices which I can already do with this stock version!! Also, when I first got this 4 days ago, I just turned it on and connected to my wifi and I was up and running!!!

Matter of fact, I've been using it for days and only yesterday connected to my PC. No itunes activation, no pc or downloads REQUIRED - just turn on the Xoom and zoom away. As far as hardware goes the Xoom exceeds just about all other Tablets. Dual core 1ghz processor, 1gb ram, 2mp webcam, 5mp camera, sd card slot, dual led flash, and micro usb stand out as the highlights along with Honeycomb 3.0 especially for Tablets. The screen is 10.1 and the display is excellent. When comparing hardware specs its important to be factual about what is actually of real benefit and what is just hype. What makes a difference to the end user as opposed to stats using benchmarking tools and this is where the Xoom excels.

My very first impression was the reaction speed to my input. The dual core cpu and 1gb memory show their true colors here. Everything is snappy and so much more responsive than I have ever found Apple's ios to be. From scrolling to swiping to typing - lightning fast response without any lag whatsoever. I found it could take photos in pitch black dark and have them turn out as if there was a light on - just amazing!!! The stereo speakers have a surround sound to them and easily beat the mono sound of other Tablets.

Now for software. I love Google Talk and have relatives overseas who I can now both voice and video chat to whereas I couldn't with an ipad as Facetime only works with other Apple device owners and my family cannot afford to buy an ipad and a wireless connection just to speak with us. Now with my Xoom we can stay in touch via both voice and video over both 3G and wireless!! Complete freedom & versatility.

Another is Google voice and voice search engine and voice dictation. Live wallpaper is a other feature of Xoom I love. The battery life is excellent and I like the Android Market much more than itunes. If you make a purchase from Apple by mistake you'll have a very tough time getting a refund with their no refund policy. But with Android you've got a 15 minute window to download and install the app and if you don't like it you click on the refund button and you are not charged!!! How cool!!!

You've got TRUE MULTI- TASKING not the twice press home button rubbish Apple try and palm off to naive users. This is the real thing. Switch between gaming, browsing, video and email  or work ON THE FLY . IMPRESSIVE VERY IMPRESSIVE!!! Use a SWYPE KEYBOARD (downloaded) , put your bookmarks on your desktop so you can go directly to the site WITHOUT FIRST OPENING YOUR web browser. Get proper LOUD calendar alerts that are audible.  Apple's calendar alerts are just a tiny beep and unusable for scheduling appointments but the Xoom built in alerts are customisable and reliable so you will know when you have a meeting. Last night I had a 2 hour voice conference with 4 colleagues over Skype and the stereo speakers gave me crystal clear sound better than my Altec Lansing on my PC. There was a lady who never came over clearly before until now. I never told them I was on my Xoom and they never asked. They said I sounded clearer than last week (when I was using my Logitech 9000 products WEBCAM!!)

I will add much more to this review in time but I want to get this online to help others thinking about getting a Tablet PC. I haven't mentioned drawbacks because there are not any real drawbacks with this device. For instance usb charging cannot be done with Xoom but a device like this requires more power than a usb port to charge efficiently and I personally don't find any room for a bulky device to sit on my PC. I only really want to connect this thing to my PC to get data but with an ipad you're attached to itunes and you've got to plug you're ipad in if you want to view your account or update your device or perform a backup or restore all things or do a reset. I can already do all these things while fanboys wait for ios 5.0!!
